I had no idea what a port was before I had to have one put in July 2018. The only port I was aware of was the ones ships docked at for loading.... lol...
Due to the intensity of my chemo treatment, I was told I had to have a port. The chemo was going to be too strong and would destroy my veins. The port is an access with a small catheter that opens very near the heart. (Thanks, doc, that just worried me!) I, like most would be, was very nervous. This whole experience was a whirlwind. I was SOLEY trusting that the Lord had everything planned and under control..... AND He does... ALL THE TIME!!!
I had my port put in and a week later I had treatment! I still had glue from the surgery that hadn't worn off yet. Let me tell you! That was one of the BEST decisions!!! Every blood draw, treatment, or med needed when right through that IV to my port. 1 stick at admission and that was it! I do believe, I will brag about this forever!! Whenever I needed work that would normally require a needle prick, my port was used instead. :)
Honorable mention goes out to the numbing cream I was sent home with. a Nickle size blob of that glorious wonder under a bandage for 10 mins and I felt nothing when the port was accessed!!!
This new best thing to life was removed a year after my last treatment. It was left in long enough, that in case of return I wouldn't need another surgery for it. I had to have it flushed once a month to prevent clots from forming. This picture was after I talked the doctor into letting me keep it!
